theres really nothing. nothing else. that can squash positive thoughts. about the possibility of staying here. and finally putting some roots down. and moving up at the job. nothing can squash that quite so completely. as the telephone call i got today. as the statement i heard from her. the other photographer at the paper i work for. theres no statement that can ruin all that quite as much as hearing 'im buying a house!'

a quote for today.

'i love dorks. i think they are superb.'

written by my friend laura. in response to something i said about my very old stuffed eeyore being one of my most prized possessions. hee.

'he claimed the town employee was taunting him by going up and down the street plowing the road'

so he hit him with his shovel.

hahahahaha. hoohoohoo. heehee.

um. ever considered moving to a warmer climate, perhaps?

so im going to see 'the hours' tomorrow. oh yes i am. because ive been anticipating this movie. for months. and months.

and some days are so much better than others. arent they?

i wish every day were today. because even with the endless driving i had to do. and the shovelling of many pounds and many inches of snow. and my mother snapping at me for no reason on the telephone. and the horrible woman. who told me flat out that she was in a horrible mood and demanded i not take her picture. and the fact that i woke up thirty minutes late and walked into my first assignment with my hair still wet (though pulled up) and almost ten minutes late.

even with that stuff. id still take it. over one of those other days i have.

and i kept thinking tonight. on my drive down to class. if every day were like this. my life would be okay. i would be okay. really. if i could just work all day and have class at night once a week. and steal away for twentyish minutes at my favorite cafe in town for lunch with daniel. and have the front page rockin with my photos of the storm. and complements all around on the job ive been doing lately. if my life were really like this. really more like today. everything. would be so different.

i got there early. like twenty five minutes before the class started. i signed up for conversational french I at the community college nearby. tonight was the first night. and i got there so early that i sat in my car in the parking lot listening to music for ten or fifteen minutes. because thats what i do. i leave the house an hour and fifteen minutes before the class starts. to make a thirty minute drive. and my heart pounded. i had butterflies. i was nervous. like that first day of school nervous you used to get every year in september. and i wrote a little in my notebook before going in. but i finally went in. and took this class ive been wanting to take for years. but something has always come up, whether it be a scheduling conflict or class cancellation due to low enrollment. so i went and it was good. and i learned all the funky r's and a's and e's and s's and all the different sounds they make. and i laughed at myself a whole lot (which felt better than anything else really.) and ill probably be saying things like 'sit down' and 'open your book, please' and 'please ask that man to close the door' in french a lot this week.

in regards to a conversation about valentines day. i just loved this. said by jenn. so. a quote for today.

'having encountered these ideas, it now seems so obvious to me that "love" doesn't have to mean schmoopy romantic love. It can mean love that challenges, love that changes the world, peace and love and a coming together to try to stop hatred, destruction, terror and war. maybe the world needs a valentine in order to stop it feeling angry and destructive, like that one kid in class who only received one from the teacher and nobody else.'
