this is todays quote. this is one of those quotes of a lifetime for me. one that strikes a chord. one that i cant believe i didnt say first.

'...and i just picture a boy in faded jeans with his sleeves rolled up and a pack of cigarettes in his front pocket and a harmonica in the glove compartment and some beer cans in the back. and some james taylor on the radio or some elvis presley or some otis redding or some johnny cash or any gruffy male vocalist singing about some little girl he lost way back when.  talking to me. singing to me. knowing his way down the backroads. taking me out for breakfast and going down to the lake and kissing my hand.  and i like stepping up into trucks. and i like getting a blanket and climbing into the back.  everything looks so good from the back of a pickuptruck.' -said by leesa. who loves those old pickup trucks just as much as i do.

so i cant sleep tonight.

and while checking out utne.com i stumbled upon an eq test. emotional intelligence. i guess.

so. based on these factors:
-knowing your feelings and using them to make life decisions you can live with.
-being able to manage your emotional life without being hijacked by it -- not being paralyzed by depression or worry, or swept away by anger.
-persisting in the face of setbacks and channeling your impulses in order to pursue your goals.
-empathy -- reading other people's emotions without their having to tell you what they are feeling.
-handling feelings in relationships with skill and harmony -- being able to articulate the unspoken pulse of a group, for example.

with 200 being the highest. and 100 being average.

i scored 60.

yea. that sounds about right.

has anyone else seen this site?

great stuff, most of it. this site makes me happy. im happy it exists. its chock full of disturbing facts and interesting random tidbits.

though i have to say that im not happy that they bashed peta and i thought about not posting the about-face link at all because of it. because i dont believe that people are more valuable than animals. it sounds crazy i know it does. but thats the truth. for me. and it bothers me that sometimes people are so blinded by their own fierce beliefs that everything they see becomes skewed and theyre unable to see beyond those (sometimes distorted) beliefs.

theres a quote that says what im trying to say better than i am proving here. but damn i cant remember now.

anyway.

in the end, i decided to post it because i think its a site that people should see. they both are, actually.

so im back from maryland.

montgomery county maryland to be exact. in case you were wondering. you know. where the sniper has been doing his thing.

it was a stressful time. its not fun feeling like a moving target.

but it was a fun time too. full of crazy family and unbelievable happiness on the part of the bride and the groom.

yay for hawaiian honeymoons and not getting shot.

and a very special thank you has to go out to our kickass rental suv. a lovely silver jeep liberty. thanks for being so darn tolerant. and for getting us through nine hours of hellacious traffic down the eastern seaboard. and of course. even though we started hydroplaning at 60 mph. and we were staring a guardrail straight in the eyes at one point. somewhere in new jersey along 287. thanks for getting us through the torrential rains. and for not letting us hit that eighteen wheeler truck and spin out and find ourselves facing oncoming traffic. and have parts flying off of us. like the car in front of us did. and thanks for swerving so dutifully like you did. to miss. you know. the car and all its flying bumpers and hubcaps and other various pieces.

but especially. thanks for holding your gas like you did. and for not needing another fill up after we left delaware. until we got back into delaware on the drive home.

yea. thanks. for the smooth sailing.

i just got home.

im exhausted. my feet are sore. my shoulders are sore. my eyeballs are sore.

i was a frikkin workhorse this weekend. i tell ya. i was.

and i was loving every second of it. basking in the glow of the sun and then the computer screen. running. quite literally at points. all over town. covering parades and spaghetti suppers and apple fests and whatnot. covering. the biggest weekend of the year here in these parts.

im tired. but for the first time in a long time. im good tired.

as the man would say.
